Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
The announcement was made recently at church that our pastor, James, was going to be leaving us. This was not due to any problems in the church nor was it requested by him. In fact, he has turned this offer down twice already. The church simply has need of his leadership talents elsewhere. Such is the nature of an itinerate system.
In thinking about this, I looked back at the relatively short history of our church. The founding pastor, Bob - a man with a calling to plant churches and the talents and charisma to get it done - got things [……]

Wow - I didn't know it was possible to dislike a job so much. I dislike the primary tools I have to work with and I dislike the project that I am working on. I genuinely like about 5 people here, genuinely dislike about the same, and the rest I honestly don't care one way or the other about. (Is that bad of me?) My local company is fairly good to work for but our corporation is a steaming pile. And the corporate IS leadership is comprised of a bunch of control freaks who don't [……]
Some time ago, I read Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs which is a must read for anybody who (a) likes good humor and (b) came of age while listening to Top 40 radio in the 70s and early 80s.
This book came about as the result of one of Dave's columns from many years prior in which he asked readers what the worst rock song ever was. He got more feedback on this one topic than he has ever gotten in response to a column and it continued long after the follow-up story ran. Years after. So [……]

And on the heels of that last post comes this. In an effort to be fair, I'll withhold comment until I see the results. But I'll admit, I fear the worst.
The Muppets meet The Mouse
Anyone who knows me knows that I have an ongoing love/hate opinion of The Walt Disney Company. This is primarily because it no longer bears much resemblance to Walt Disney's company. While I realize that any business has to change and evolve in order to survive (or, at least, to avoid stagnation) I thoroughly dislike what Disney has evolved into - a gigantic marketing machine.
Undoubtedly, Disney is a for-profit venture and needs to keep an eye on things like debt-to-equity ratios and EPS, but it has lost sight of all else. With the occasional exception, the movies [……]

(Is that a Blog Klog?)
Wow! I'm so far behind on my blogging that I'm not sure it's even worth trying to write about all of the things I've wanted to over the past 2 weeks. I really need to get better at keeping up with this thing. If I'm gonna do it, I oughta do it right, right?
So get ready for an onslaught of old news as I try to relieve some of the pressure in my brain.
Strange Spam
I received the second strangest piece of spam that I've ever seen yesterday.
I actually wouldn't have seen this stuff had I not recently changed mail clients. Pegasus Mail doesn't grab linked images that are not included in the message itself. If it had I would've hit the delete key just based on the preview pane. Instead I saw this:

No - this is not about the latest Microsoft-funded benchmark study or the SCO lawsuits. In fact, it's not about Linux at all. It's about bashing penguins with a club.
Check out Pingu, an all-too-addictive little timesink where the goal is to hit the penguin as far as you can. Simple as that.
If you beat my distance (see below) I'd appreciate a screenshot.
Responsibility? ME?!?
My pastor recently approached me about becoming the Lay Leader for our church. Naturally, I told him that I would need to pray about it and talk it over with SWMBO, but here are my initial thoughts on the matter.
First things first - I'd be lying if I said this didn't scare the living bat crap out of me. Generally speaking, I'm not an up-in-front type of guy. If nothing else, I'm at least smart enough to know what my talents are not and significant group leadership falls into that camp.
My talents have always been in behind-the-scenes [……]
