So, um, yeah. About that...
I have noticed that the people who are late are often so much jollier than the people who have to wait for them.
— E. V. Lucas
After three false starts, one complete rewrite, a global pandemic, a lot of procrastination, some technical issues, and a medical shlebobble which will be named later, I have finally gotten the blog rebuilt (again) and relaunched. The false starts and the rewrite all eventually got thrown away because I just wasn't happy with the direction they were going and really wanted to spend my development time working on added features instead of the base engine. [……]

Person 1: Look! There in the distance! Something's... [wipes eyes in disbelief] ...um, something's moving!!
Person 2: What is it?!?
Person 1: I don't know. You -- you don't suppose...
Person 2: Oh no! Not that! God help us all.
What Tomorrow Brings
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
Mark Twain
Hip hip hello again, everyone! (OK — that was stupid.)
So here's what's been keeping me from posting on a regular basis. When I jumped back into writing a blog, there was a lot going on and my life was kind of a mish-mash of emotions and questions and uncertainty. I needed to get it out of my head and that gave me a lot to write about. And that drove the design and function of the blog platform that I created. It is very much built [……]

Work on the blog continues.
Yes, I realize that you most likely don't give a rip.
No, that doesn't concern me.
Yes, you can sue me if you feel that strongly about it.
No, you won't get anything because I don't have any money.
So anyway.
On the front end, page titles are now getting generated correctly. Again, I'm probably the only one who really cares about that but it matters a lot for search engine recognition and analytics reports. The biggest addition that you will notice is that pagination is now working. Next on the agenda is to finally get comments working [……]

Yes, you read that right, dear readers - all six of you. The Where's My Head? blog is back from the mostly dead. It turns out that, after spending WAY too long being seduced into Twitter's 140 character arms, that I really miss working out my thoughts and writing them out in a more long-form fashion. And seeing as how I'm wrestling with a lot of emotional and spiritual changes these days, I also really miss the catharsis of writing it out. And that's all this blog was ever really for anyway. It's really more my personal journal that I [……]

I've changed the look of the blog. The old one was just thrown up as a quick solution when I switched to a different CMS and I've never been truly happy with it. Until now I hadn't found anything that I liked any better though. This one I kinda like, at least as a starting point.
Only a couple points of contention that need to be dealt with.
- For some reason, the Currently Reading block (now on the left) on the doesn't seem to be grabbing it's title from the database. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but
Backups and hard drives that go ka-chunk-ka-chunk
This site is hosted on a friend's server and last week it decided that it was tired and needed a nap.
I was editing a script and it started getting really slow. Then he logged in and it was REALLY slow. Eventually, it stopped responding at all and he couldn't log in at all. I was still logged in to my editing session and eventually vim crashed. It segfaulted when I tried to restart it. And I was pretty much dead in the water. A few bash internal commands worked but most things either segfaulted or complained that they could [……]

For better or worse, the site is now live on the new CMS. No more double posting so there's no turning back. I'll be porting over the missing pieces in the next few days.
Please let me know if you experience any issues with this new setup. I haven't yet, but I don't actually read this thing... :-)
Almost converted
I'm almost done with the conversion of this site to new software. The stories, comments, polls and other static content items have all been ported over and, in a number of cases, have had links repaired. I did this by hand to make sure it all got where it needed to be correctly and to find the dead links. I actually enjoyed it as it gave me a chance to go back and re-read things that I wrote way back when. I'm quite certain that I am the only one that would get any enjoyment out of reading my old [……]
